What is car camping?

Car camping does not mean you get to overnight in your car. And if you are going backpacking, you might as well stop reading here. Car camping is just that: getting to your campsite in a car. What that means is that you can pull up to your camp site with your car, unload a few yards away from where you will pitch your tent, and basically gravitate around your car as you go around your camping business.

Camping Humor

These are actual comments left on U. S. Forest Service registration sheets and comment cards by backpackers completing wilderness camping trips:

* “A small deer came into my camp and stole my bag of pickles. Is there a way I can get reimbursed? Please call.”
* “Escalators would help on steep uphill sections.”
* “Instead of a permit system or regulations, the Forest Service needs to reduce worldwide population growth to limit the number of visitors to wilderness.”
* “Trails need to be wider so people can walk while holding hands.”
* “Ban walking sticks in wilderness. Hikers that use walking sticks are more likely to chase animals.”
* “All the mile markers are missing this year.”
* “Found a smoldering cigarette left by a horse.”
* “Trails need to be reconstructed. Please avoid building trails that go uphill.”
* “Too many bugs and leeches and spiders and spider webs. Please spray the wilderness to rid the area of these pests.”
* “Please pave the trails so they can be plowed of snow in the winter.”
* “Chair lifts need to be in some places so that we can get to wonderful views without having to hike to them.”
* “The coyotes made too much noise last night and kept me awake. Please eradicate these annoying animals.”
* “Reflectors need to be placed on trees every 50 feet so people can hike at night with flashlights.”

RV camping recipe ideas

If you like RV camping then you can take advantage of having the convenience of having an RV. Items like a cast iron skillet, fresh meat and vegetables are just a few items you can bring along in an RV that would be difficult to carry if you are tent camping or hiking. Don't forget though, just because you are in an RV, some of your favorite recipes can still be made outdoors over an open fire.

Kabobs are an easy meal to make when RV camping. Place small pieces of meats and vegetables onto a skewer and roast over an open fire. Make certain that the meats are completely cooked and you should have no problems. Corn on the cob is a fun food to try. Apples, peaches, and other fruits are great as well. You can even dip the hot fruit into brown sugar, cinnamon, chocolate and other sweets.

These are just a few ideas. So even though you're RV camping and you can enjoy the convenience of a microwave or stove, you should still get outdoors and cook over the open fire!

Camp Game with Kids

Next time you go camping try this game while you're around the campfire, or even when you're taking a break on a day hike.

Everyone finds a comfortable place to sit and closes their eyes. Silently, to themselves, they should count the sounds they hear until they reach ten sounds. Then everyone can open their eyes and share the sounds they heard.

A variation of this game involves counting things in nature that are a particular color, such as orange, purple, or red.
